Functional Capacity Assessments
At Divergent Therapy, we provide Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) for NDIS participants to inform access and planning decisions.
We understand the purpose and impact of each report and strive to meet these requirements while upholding our values of respect, honesty, and inclusion. We recognise that the medical model plays a role in gaining access to support within a complex system, but we are intentional about striking a balance. Our goal is to honour each person’s identity and lived experience while ensuring the necessary information is presented clearly and effectively to support NDIS planning outcomes.
Our FCA process includes a comprehensive overview through interviews, standardised assessment (selected collaboratively with informed consent), and a review of relevant reports and documentation. All reports are tailored to reflect the language and identity preferences of the child and family. We use identity-first language (or your preferred terminology), affirm chosen names and pronouns, and provide neurodiversity-affirming recommendations that advocate for appropriate supports while preserving the dignity of the individual.
Divergent Therapy provides neurodiversity-affirming assessments that clearly communicate support needs while honouring each child’s identity, strengths, and lived experience.
Please note: Divergent Therapy does not offer specialised assistive technology assessments for mobility devices/aids or more complex environmental/home modifications.
Other Assessments
In addition to FCAs, we offer a range of comprehensive assessments to guide therapy and supports. These may include:
Sensory assessments to gain more specific information about your child’s individual sensory preferences, regulatory needs, and offering accommodations and alternatives to optimise sensory input in different environments
Handwriting or fine motor assessments to identify support needs in educational and everyday tasks
Developmental assessments to understand your child’s strengths and challenges in relation to developmental milestones using standardised assessments and relevant outcome measures.
School and Early learning observational assessments to better understand your child’s support needs and identify helpful accomodations to promote learning in an educational context.
NDIS letters and assessment report to gain NDIS funding especially if they are under seven years of age.
All assessments include a written report that can be shared with your child’s broader support team, including the NDIS, educators, and other professionals involved in their care.
